Abstract
B.Zaitsev is one of representative writers of the first wave of Russian emigrant literature,a writer who profoundly knows the Russian classical literary tradition and the development of literature,as well as a typical writer of Russian neorealism in the early 20th century.B.Zaitsev occupies a unique position in the literary arena of the Silver Age.This book analyzes the artistic characteristics and thematic implications of Zaitsev's novels,created in different times,and examines the impressionistic,expressionistic,symbolic elements and the characteristics of spiritual realism in these novels,and then reveals the neorealism concept as one of the writer's unique stylistic features,which thus demonstrates the diversity of Zaitsev's novels.
This book consists of introduction,body parts and conclusion.The introductory part gives a review of the research on Zaitsev's works at home and abroad,explains the origin of topics,contents,methods and significance of the study.The body parts contain five chapters,which explore the neorealism poetics of Zaitsev's novels from different aspects.
Chapter One based on Zaitsev's early novels,according to M.Bakhtin's moral ethics,explores the writer's attitude to ordinary life,his view of the inner spiritual life and happiness,examines Zaitsev's concept of divinity life,and then illustrates his unique view of reality transcending the material and pursuing the spiritual satisfies.
Chapter Two offers a review of the evolution of impressionism in Russian literature,focuses on the identity between man and creature in Zaitsev's impressionistic novels created in the early time,the relationship between man and nature,individual and group,which therefore concludes the impressionism characteristics of Zaitsev's early novels and their pantheism thought.
Chapter Three comparatively analyzes L.Andreev's Red laugh and Zaitsev's Black wind and Tomorrow!,investigates the subjective cognitive model of art in these novels,the abstract image construction and existence meaning behind these abstract images.It is concluded that Zaitsev,using expressionistic methods,expresses a unique world view different from Andreev's.
Chapter Four explores the symbolic images of Zaitsev's novels.Firstly,it is investigated the cosmic thought and symbolic meaning of the female images in novel Blue Star,and pointed out Zaitsev's divine female view.Secondly,it is analyzed the color's symbolic meaning and the heroine's life path in the novel Golden Pattern,and then revealed the writer's suffering thought and confession consciousness.Finally,with expounding the theme of the novel House in Passy it is discussed the Russia image and portraying of its divinity,and drawn a unique picture of life created by Zaitsev through art.
Chapter Five clarifies the main research positions about Zaitsev's autobiographical tetralogy Gleb 's Travels in Russian literature and criticism,and examines the conception of spiritual realism.This chapter also explores Zaitsev's attention to the spiritual reality revolving around the life paths of the tetralogy's protagonist Gleb,the influence of I.Turgenev's First love on Gleb,and comparatively analyzes love views of the two writers,which thus confirms Zaitsev's pursuit to noble love.And then it is traced Gleb's thorny road leading to faith and truth,showed his spiritual journey on the earth and demonstrated Zaitsev's neorealism poetics.
Summing up the above,we can conclude that Zaitsev,based on real life,pays attention to describing the inner spiritual world of the characters,and conveys his aesthetic pursuit to divine reality using modernist artistic methods.Impressionism,expressionism,symbols and spiritual realism,each one of which represents Zaitsev's neorealism,in a whole form the writer's style and features of neorealism novel.
